Language Barrier

Everyday I wake up with angels beside me.

I love being there for my angels, spending time with them is always fun-filled and memorable. But seeing my daughter grow-up, her needs to mingle with other kids, I started to see somethings wrong. Like the language issue.

My daughter is bilingual (speaks Tagalog and English) at first I thought that teaching her to speak our mother tongue (which is Tagalog) is best for her and learning English would be in advantage since it’s the International language. But now, seeing her unable to communicate with kids at her age that we meet at the park, I doubt it. She can’t tell “Let’s play together” “Let’s take turns”  “Here, use mine” “May I borrow that” in nihonggo. I feel responsible for that. I can see that she really must play with kids at her age, but how would that happen, if there is a language problem?

We live in a non-English-speaking-country (Japan), I am not fluent in japanese, we don’t plan to stay here forever, I thought it’s not necessary to teach my kids how to speak nihonggo, but now, I think, I’m wrong.
